The kitchen was opened into the living room to form a more fluid heart of the home, with an Udupi-style courtyard tucked beneath the stairwell. A compact utility zone replaces the jal moola, while a guthu-inspired wooden ceiling softens the double-height living area and creates space for a first-floor bar.
Inspired by the ethos of Tulu Nadu, the home combines yellow Jaisalmer flooring, laterite-clad walls, custom furniture, antique brassware, and family heirlooms to create a warm dialogue between heritage and contemporary living.
On the first floor, a multifunctional partition combines a bar and gym storage, enriched by an Udupi-inspired CNC-cut pattern. The master bedroom adopts a soft yellow-beige palette, while the daughter’s room features calming powder blue tones inspired by coastal homes. A former balcony has been reimagined as a compact work-from-home corner opening into a lounge.
Designed for everyday rituals, the compact dining and puja spaces feature a low stone plinth, a custom dining table with tuck-in chairs, and a laterite-clad wall that adds warmth and texture.

The clients came to us with a desire to recreate the spirit of Udupi within their Bengaluru home, bringing along cherished heirlooms salvaged from their grandmother’s house to be displayed with pride. Adding another layer to the brief was their deep commitment to Vaastu, with room colours, furniture placement, and spatial decisions shaped by individual gotras. It was a unique challenge that immediately captured our interest.
