bhat 'n' bhat
Bhat 'n' Bhat is a retail store designed for a growing food brand from coastal Karnataka in Mangaluru. Inspired by the warmth and familiarity of traditional neighbourhood shops, the space reinterprets regional architectural and cultural elements within a contemporary retail setting. Reflecting the brand’s roots in traditional recipes, spice blends, and pickles, the design creates an atmosphere that feels authentic, nostalgic, and welcoming.

Designed and completed within a short timeline, the project draws from the vernacular character of coastal Karnataka through clay tiles, kaavi-inspired flooring, and warm wooden details. Traditional lathe-turned wooden balusters were reinterpreted as part of the store’s display system, subtly bridging heritage with contemporary retail design.

Alongside the architectural language, familiar regional objects such as akkimudi (rice bundles) and barani (traditional pickle jars) were thoughtfully integrated into the store. These elements strengthen the connection between the products, the place, and the people, evoking memories of home and local traditions.
