A retirement home in Manipal designed for an elderly couple, this residence reflects their love for gardening, collected heirlooms, and the region’s relaxed way of life. Rooted in the local culture and climate, the home was envisioned as a deeply personal retreat that would age gracefully alongside its occupants.
More than a renovation, this project is a reflection of a life lived - a home shaped by memories, cherished possessions and a deep connection to the place the couple has always called home.

Removing a wall between the living and dining areas transformed the home into a brighter, more connected space. A restored wooden column salvaged from an old house serves as a focal point, celebrating regional architectural heritage, while a seating ledge between the two spaces showcases the couple’s cherished travel souvenirs. Display units detailed with traditional wooden corbels further strengthen the connection to local craftsmanship and building traditions.
The bedrooms were designed to feel familiar and personal. In one room, a treasured saree was incorporated into the design, bringing with it a sense of warmth, memory and nostalgia. The kitchen follows a simple and functional approach, finished in warm natural tones that complement the rest of the home.
